Four Injured in Shooting at Pottsville Bar

In a statement released Saturday morning, Pottsville Police say a late-night patrol heard a disturbance at Woody’s. As they began investigating the fracas, an officer “heard several shots fired in the area of a large crowd of people gathered to the rear of the establishment.”

Here’s what Pottsville police say happened next:

“During the course of the police response to the deadly threat posed by the actors a Pottsville Bureau of Police officer encountered an armed male and fired his/her weapon to stop the threat.”

Police say there is no active threat to the public as a result of this incident. The people suspected of being involved have been identified.

As of 3 p.m. Saturday, State Police and investigators remain at the scene of Woody’s in Pottsville. The investigation into the shooting is being headed up by State Police and Schuylkill County DA Mike O’Pake.

Patrons at Woody’s last night reported being at the bar with investigators until the early morning on Saturday.

UPDATE (4:04 p.m.): State Police investigating the crime scene on Peacock Street believe that a large fight started on Woody’s patio. There were several shooters. The fight progressed inside the bar, where Pottsville police encountered the people involved.

Right now, it doesn’t appear any shot fired from a Pottsville police officer hit a person, according to a report from WFMZ.com. A State Police investigator says they’re looking into a connection between the shooters.

“Some are not from the area,” police told WFMZ. “At least one is from Philadelphia.”

More details as they’re released.
