A Hamburg man is locked up in Schuylkill County prison following an attempted burglary in Orwigsburg.

When borough police officers finally caught up to Rodney McDonald, of Hamburg, they found him in the house he allegedly burgled eating Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Orwigsburg Thief Caught Peanut Butter Handed in Robbery Attempt

Orwigsburg PD says in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 25, they responded to 160 N. Franklin St., for a reported burglary in progress.

An eyewitness called the cops when they heard a loud bang outside their house. The caller walked outside and saw that his neighbor’s gas grill was on the ground. It had previously been on his second-floor porch.

The caller looked up and saw a white guy looking back at him, peering around a corner.

“I’m going to call the police,” the caller said, paraphrasing.

The bandit replied, “I’m going to kill you,” per the Orwigsburg Police statement.

That’s when the caller went in their home and called 9-1-1.

Police Respond

Orwigsburg PD responded to the location and Officer Bryce Lewis says he heard someone in the suspected burgled home.

Lewis found a large piece of glass busted out of a kicked-in door. Once inside, Lewis encountered a man standing by the refrigerator downing some Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Police identified him as McDonald and took him into custody.

McDonald appeared before District Judge David Plachko in Port Carbon on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and terroristic threats.

Schuylkill Haven PD assisted in apprehending McDonald, too.
