Pottsville grad John Holobetz has been named to the Boston Red Sox 2026 Spring Breakout game roster.
The Spring Breakout is a showcase of each Major League Baseball organization’s top prospects. The event is in its third year and has grown in popularity as games have routinely featured some of the best young talent to rise to the majors. Its popularity has grown so much that this will be the final year of single games. Starting in 2027, Spring Breakout will switch to a tournament format.
Holobetz’ Red Sox will face the Baltimore Orioles prospects on March 20 in Sarasota, Florida.
Right now, Holobetz is the #14 prospect in the Red Sox farm system after posting impressive stats during his first year as a pro in 2025. He joined Boston’s organization on May 5 after an April 7 trade between the Red Sox and Brewers. Holobetz was the infamous Player To Be Named Later.
In 2025, Holobetz, 23, posted an 8-4 record and reached the Double-A level with the Eastern League’s Portland Sea Dogs. He was second in the Minors with a 4% walk rate and a 6.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
