STORM CENTER: Schuylkill County Winter Storm Alerts

Municipal, county, and state announcements and service alerts from around Schuylkill County

Another, potentially significant, snowstorm is headed for Schuylkill County.

And with that comes parking bans, restrictions, and other snow-adjacent announcements.

Coaldale

Alleyways need to be cleared of vehicles during and the day after a storm.

If there are large areas of a street with no vehicles parked, the Borough says plows will try to work closer to the curbs.


Frackville

The Borough has declared a Snow Emergency. It goes into effect at midnight Sunday and expires at midnight on Tuesday.

There shall be no parking along Snow Emergency Routes in the borough, including Lehigh Ave. (both North and South, from borough line to borough line) and Oak St. (entire length).

Any vehicles parked along these Snow Emergency Routes will be ticketed and towedd.


Mahanoy City

A Snow Ban is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday until noon on Monday in Mahanoy City.

During this time, there will be no parking on Centre, Main, Liberty Hill, and South streets in the borough. Police are telling residents to have their vehicles removed from these streets during the Snow Ban.


Palo Alto

The Borough announced that there will be no parking on the north (odd-numbered) side of Savory St. from 8 a.m. Sunday until further notice.


Pottsville

The City will implement its Snow Emergency Level 2 and Parking Ban starting at 6 a.m. Sunday and it’ll remain in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.

All vehicles need to be removed from Snow Emergency Routes and Fire Lanes.

Snow Emergency Routes include:

  • Centre St.
  • E. Norwegian St.
  • Laurel Blvd. (from Centre to 2nd and 9th to 12th streets)
  • Mauch Chunk St.
  • Nichols St.
  • W. Market St.
  • 7th St. (from Howard Ave. to Mahantongo St.)
  • 16th St. (from Market St. to Elk Ave.)

The follow streets are Fire Lanes:

  • 2nd St. (from Laurel Blvd. to Sanderson St.)
  • Morgan Ave. (from 3rd to 7th streets, north side only)
  • Sanderson St.
  • 3rd St. (from Sanderson St. to Morgan Ave.)
  • 4th St. (from Mahantongo to Boone streets)
  • 6th St. (from Mahantongo to Boone streets)
  • 9th St. (from Mahantongo to Pierce streets)
  • 20th St.
  • Deerfield Dr.
  • Pierce St. (from 2nd to 4th streets)
  • Schuylkill Ave. (from 2nd to 4th streets)
  • Union St. (from 2nd to 4th streets)
  • Wolfe St. (from Norwegian St. to Ridge Ave.)

The following areas are marked as temporary parking lots for Pottsville residents affected by restrictions:

  • Centre St.: Arch and Union St. lots, Capitol and Mahantongo St. garages
  • E. Norwegian St.: Arch and Union St. lots, Capitol parking garage, Good Samaritan Anderson St. lot
  • Mauch Chunk St.: Union St. lot
  • Nichols St.: North side of E. Railroad St.
  • W. Market St.: Pottsville Area School District Academic Center lower lot, Arch and Union St. lots, Capitol and Mahantongo St. parking garages, East side of Boyer’s parking lot in Yorkville

Residents are being asked to help remove snow from around fire hydrants.


Saint Clair

A Snow Ban goes into effect in Saint Clair from 10 a.m. on Sunday and lasts until 3 p.m. Monday.

Parking on Snow Emergency Routes during this time is prohibited. Vehicles parked along Snow Emergency Routes may be ticketed and towed.


Shenandoah

Shenandoah has announced a Snow Removal Emergency and Snow Emergency Route in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Monday.

During this time, the Shenandoah Police Department is authorized to strictly enforce parking regulations. Any vehicles found obstructing snow removal or emergency access in restricted zones will be subject to ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense. Residents are advised to limit travel in the affected areas and monitor Borough communications for further updates.

Parking is strictly prohibited on the following Snow Emergency Routes:

  • Center Street: Between White Street and West Street
  • Main Street: From Washington Street to Laurel Street
  • All public alleyways within the Borough

Vehicles parked on Snow Emergency Routes and in alleys during this time may be ticketed and towed.
