The Shenandoah area is a little closer to full restoration of water service this evening.
Borough Manager Mike Cadau says Shenandoah has received an update from Aqua Pennsylvania that water quality testing is now underway. An initial set of water samples has been collected and sent to a lab in Bryn Mawr for analysis.
This is the first post-leak step toward the lifting of the Boil Water Advisory that was put in place on Monday.
Shenandoah and surrounding communities served by Aqua Pennsylvania have largely been without water service or very low water pressure since Monday night following a water main break.
The source of that break is thought to have been discovered on Wednesday night along a six-inch fire line at the former Woolworth’s department store on N. Main St.
On Thursday, water pressure returned to normal for many customers served by Aqua in the Shenandoah area.
When all customers were restored, testing was to have begun.
Cadau and Aqua officials say that two consecutive samples taken 24 hours apart must pass a compliance check before the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted.
Aqua is continuing to locate and repair leaks in the Shenandoah area water infrastructure to help stabilize the system, Cadau says.
