Pottsville Police Union Responds to Councilman’s Comments During Tow Rotation Kerfuffle

Pottsville’s police union, Pottsville FOP Lodge 44, has issued a public response to a Councilman’s comment Tuesday night made during a heated kerfuffle over a proposed towing rotation ordinance, calling it “completely unprofessional and not necessary.”

The statement was posted Wednesday night on the FOP’s Facebook page. The statement was verified as authentic.

On Tuesday, Councilman Andy Wollyung, in defense of a proposed towing ordinance he helped author, “Wollyung then chimed in and said, “If we’re going to bring up personal relationships, then we’re going to bring up that an officer is dating one of the towing rotation people from Womer’s.”

Wollyung’s comment came amid a brisk back-and-forth between he and fellow Councilwomen Dottie Botto and Cat Mahon, during which each accused one another of having personal conflicts in the debate on whether or not to move forward with a towing rotation.

Ultimately, the City voted to table any ordinance on a towing rotation until the new year, when a Republican-led majority takes control of Pottsville government after they swept the General Election in November.

In response to Wollyung’s comment on Tuesday, the FOP Lodge says, in a statement signed by Lodge President Joe Krammes, “Councilman Wollyung’s suggested claims of integrity and ethics targeted at our Officer is reckless and not true. The way Pottsville Police Officers have handled towing vehicles has not changed.

As a councilman who ran for mayor on supporting police and keeping personal family life out of politics you completely dropped the ball. The tow rotation or lack thereof of has no basis on a personal relationship of an Officer.

The FOP is requesting at this time the Mayor and other council members for support on this issue and would like to be updated on the handling of this unprofessional behavior.”

I don’t know wollyung but he seems like a complete democrat(and that is NOT a compliment). Pretend he backs the Police while he is knifing them in the back at the same time, just like he does to the rest of Pottsville city. Why would politicians get in the mix of towing for emergency incidents? If the cops need a vehicle towed, it should be their discretion to call whoever is gonna be the fastest on getting the vehicle off the roadway and making the road safe again. Politicians, never met a good one.
