ELECTION EDITORIAL | Tim Seip, Magisterial District Judge

Tim Seip (D), candidate for Magisterial District Judge

Magisterial District Court Judge is an important position of public trust. Carrying out the duties of the court requires not only experience in matters related to the cases and issues brought, but also an objective temperament and a genuine respect for both those seeking justice and also the guidance prescribed by the judicial cannon of ethics.

There is a level of fatigue and disappointment with today’s highly contentious political climate. According to the judicial cannon of ethics, this office just clearly cannot be part of that climate. It is prohibited. I have taken steps in respectful deference to this prescription for providing a courtroom that is free from political influence and is composed only of plaintiffs and defendants seeking justice. My opponent however, has taken an entirely different approach, emblazoned his campaign signs with his political party and very specifically noted that he is running to serve one political party.

Christian Lengel has already engaged in questionable actions for endorsement of non-judicial candidates and noted when he was addressing the FOP Lodge #65 that he was removed from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy for misconduct.  In recent times, we have witnessed damaging actions from unqualified public servants that have led to lost tax revenue for government in the form of settlement payments for conduct related issues by elected officials in positions of public trust.

I have the background that is best suited for the bench of our court in Tremont. I have experience in handling many of the matters that come before the court: landlord tenant actions, school truancy, domestic violence and anger management as relating to emergency protection from abuse orders, retail theft surveillance and loss prevention work, and critical mental health emergency interventions. I am the only candidate in the race that is a licensed mental health professional and certified for student assistance program and substitute teaching. Before announcing my candidacy, I completed the Minor Judiciary Education Board certification course and exam for non-attorneys in 2024.  My opponent simply does not have this wide-ranging background that touches on all of these areas of district court responsibility.

Help restore faith in the courts and in our system by keeping politics out of the courtroom. I ask all voters from the Pine Grove Area School District, Tri Valley School District, Williams Valley School District (Schuylkill Co.), and the townships of:  Branch, Cass, Foster, Reilly, and Wayne for your vote. I ask not just those registered with one particular political party, but I ask all voters for your vote for the most qualified candidate for the job.
