ELECTION EDITORIAL | Tom Wood, Pottsville City Council

Tom Wood (D), candidate for Pottsville City Council

My name is Tom Wood, and I’ve been proud to call Pottsville home for the past 32 years.

Born in Ashland, I moved to Pottsville in 1992 and have been deeply rooted in this community ever since. I’m married to Stephanie Campion Wood, and together we’ve raised three children—two of whom continue to live and work right here in the city.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in education, along with several additional certifications, and have spent the last 25 years working in the education field. My career has been centered on service, leadership, and creating opportunities for growth—values I now bring to my role on City Council.

I was honored to be appointed to Pottsville City Council and have found the role to be a meaningful fit. It has given me a deeper understanding of the city’s needs and challenges, and I truly feel that I have a lot to offer. My experience so far has only strengthened my commitment to serving Pottsville and helping move our city forward.

There are many good things happening in Pottsville right now—from new businesses and revitalization efforts to community-driven projects and renewed civic pride. I’m running because I want to keep this positive momentum going and help make sure the progress continues for all residents.

I believe in building a vibrant, inclusive city where families can thrive and young people want to stay. I want to encourage community ownership and engagement, ensuring every resident has a voice in shaping our future.

Public safety is a top priority, and I will continue to support local law enforcement, improve infrastructure, and keep our neighborhoods secure. I also believe in transparency and accountability in local government, and in making sure city resources are managed wisely.

Other key reasons I’m running include:

  • Promoting a revitalized and thriving downtown, where businesses can grow.
  • Supporting local economic development and small businesses.
  • Expanding youth programs and recreational opportunities.
  • Improving city services and infrastructure in all neighborhoods.
  • Fostering a sense of unity and pride throughout the community.

Pottsville has given so much to me and my family. Now, through my service on City Council, I want to give back even more—by working hard, listening closely, and helping build a stronger, safer, and more connected city for everyone.

Tom Wood is a Democrat candidate for Pottsville City Council in the 2025 Schuylkill County Municipal General Election.
