The Schuylkill County woman accused of failing to contain dogs to her property in South Manheim Township – and 92 previous times in Lehigh County – waived her right to a preliminary hearing Thursday morning.
Sylwia Zapolska appeared before Magistrate Judge David Plachko at District Court in Tremont to answer to a pair of third-degree misdemeanor charges of not confining dogs on her property. Plachko was filling in for the now-retired Judge David Rossi.
Zapolska appeared without an attorney and waived her right to counsel and waived both charges against her to Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.
On July 14, State Police say they were called to a home along Route 183 in Wayne Township for an issue with dogs. The victim of this incident told police that he saw several long-haired white dogs running around his and his neighbor’s property on June 26.
On the night of June 26, the victim reportedly told police that the two dogs were growling at him as they stood on his property. He used a hand tool, hitting the ground with it, to scare away the dogs.
Similar situations happened several times after this reported incident, the victim told police.
These charges are not the first time Zapolska has appeared in court for similar accusations. Police say they were aware of Zapolska’s issue with the dogs in the past and that in Lehigh County, she was cited 92 times on similar charges.
