Schuylkill County Man Chucks Charges Back at Police, Tells Wife to Get a Gun

Allen Johns Jr. held on $50K bail

A Schuylkill County man was jailed this morning after he allegedly threw citations back at police and then told his wife to get a gun while he was resisting arrest.

According to court documents, Troopers from State Police-Schuylkill Haven were responding to a report of a disturbance between neighbors just after midnight today along Summer Hill Rd. in South Manheim Township.

Police say they determined that both neighbors would be cited with summary charges of disorderly conduct and harassment. But police say that one of the neighbors took exception to that result.

After trying to give Allen Johns Jr., 69, copies of his citations, he refused. So, police say they dropped them at his rear door.

Johns crumpled up the documents and threw them back at police. The papers allegedly hit one of the responding Troopers in the head, police say.

Johns allegedly started running back inside his house after throwing the papers but police say they were able to take him into custody. Police add that Johns did not willingly give himself up, however.

As he resisted arrest, Johns allegedly told his wife twice, “Go get a gun.”

Eventually, police say they were able to get Johns in cuffs. Auburn EMS was dispatched to the scene to treat a minor laceration injuries Johns allegedly suffered during the skirmish with police.

Johns was arraigned early Monday morning before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, resisting arrest, and harassment.

Bayer set bail at $50,000 and Johns was sent to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23 before Judge AJ Serina.
