Mahanoy City Police on Monday had to terminate a chase against a man who led them into Luzerne County at speeds topping 100 mph.
According to information released by the police earlier this week, Travis John, 31, of Mahanoy City, was wanted for failing to turn up at Schuylkill County Prison in mid-February to begin a sentence of 9-23 months.
John was spotted driving a 2016 Ford Focus in Mahanoy City at about 11:40 a.m. Monday. That’s when police attempted to pull him over and take him to prison.
However, John had other plans and ended up leading police on a high-speed pursuit. He and police left Mahanoy City and onto Interstate 81 North.
The chase ended up going into Luzerne County. Police say, at times, John was topping 100 mph on his speedometer. That’s when police gave up their pursuit due to safety concerns, they say.
However, John was eventually taken into custody and is now lodged at Schuylkill County Prison. He will now answer to an additional felony charge following his alleged actions on Monday.
