Shenandoah Announces Phased Snow Removal Operation Beginning Tuesday

Snow removal emergency declaration extended

Shenandoah has announced it will begin snow removal at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

Snow removal will happen in phases, Borough officials say.

Public works and contracted snow removal crews are moving snow from the side streets into the primary roadways and then removing it. The Borough believes it’ll take about five hours per street to remove snow.

Here are the phases of snow removal the Borough plans:

Phase 1: Begin on Main St., down W. Center St. to Boyer’s Food Markets. This includes all alleys and side streets that intersect with Main and W. Center streets in this area.

Once Phase 1 is completed, crews will move to Coal St., including all intersecting side streets and alleys. Then, it’s on to Lloyd St., including all intersecting side streets and alleys.

Phase 2: This will take place on Wednesday and include Cherry St. and all adjoining side streets as well as Oak St. and all its adjoining side streets.

Phase 3: Includes Main St. down E. Center St. to Bridge St., including all intersecting roads and alleys. The Borough says its goal is to begin this on Wednesday morning.

Shenandoah says it plans to remove snow from every street, even if it is not named in this phased plan. This schedule is fluid and will be adjusted based on progress, the Borough says.

The Borough says it’s also working with Shenandoah Valley School District to allow residents temporary parking on Tuesday only in the Elementary School lot off Route 54 and W. Center St.

All vehicles parked in the school lot must be moved by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Garbage Collection

Trash collection in the borough will be delayed until the Borough’s trucks can access streets.

Snow Emergency Extended

The Borough announced that it is extending its Snow Removal Emergency until noon on Thursday.

Vehicles will not be ticketed or towed unless they have not been removed during active snow removal operations.

Residents are urged to shovel out their vehicles so they can be moved when snow removal is occurring.
