A massive parade is being planned as the highlight of the America 250 celebration in Schuylkill County this year.
On Wednesday, Schuylkill County Commissioners outlined some of the initial plans for the parade, which will happen sometime this summer in Pottsville.
The goal is to have representation from all 67 municipalities in Schuylkill County in the parade, according to Commissioner Gary Hess. Civic organizations and other groups will be invited to participate as well.
More concrete plans on the parade and how to participate will be announced in the near future.
America 250 Kickoff in Schuylkill County
America’s semiquincentennial officially gets underway in Schuylkill County this coming Sunday, Jan. 18, at a special ceremony at Schuylkill County Courthouse.
All are invited to join the celebration hosted by America250PA.
The event will launch a year of historic programs, showcase, and community events planned across Pennsylvania.
Hess said last week that representatives from America250PA will be on hand next Sunday for the event. A special flag commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States will be presented at the ceremony.
Speakers at the short program will highlight Schuylkill County’s immense contributions to America’s growth and talk about some of the events being planned for the coming year.
Light refreshments will be served at the Sunday morning event. It’s planned for 9-10:30 a.m. Right now, the event will take place in the Commissioners Board Room. Depending on the size of the crowd expected, it could be moved to historic Courtroom 1.
