A Schuylkill County man was arrested last week on burglary and drug charges.
According to court documents, Troopers from State Police-Schuylkill Haven were dispatched to a home along Summer Hill Rd. in South Manheim Township on the afternoon of April 9 for a report of an attempted burglary in progress.
The person who called police reportedly said he observed the suspect on camera – identified as Tony Weiss, 37, of Schuylkill Haven – attempting to break into his residence.
At first, Weiss reportedly knocked on the front door of the residence to see if anyone was home. He then went inside a vehicle parked in the driveway before returning to the home’s front door. Weiss then allegedly kicked the door three times trying to open it.
Weiss was identified by the alleged victim through previous encounters, police say.
When police arrived on the scene, the victim told them that Weiss had fled the scene on foot. Police were able to catch up to Weiss as he walked along Summer Hill Rd. As police attempted to positively identify him, Weiss allegedly kept walking away from Troopers toward a wooded area.
Weiss kept resisting attempts to stop him and police say cuffs were used to detain him. However, during Weiss’ struggle with police, a handcuff key broke off in them so a second set of cuffs was used.
During a search of Weiss, police say they found a small clear bag that contained a brown powder substance and hypodermic needle in his front pants pocket.
Weiss has been charged with attempted burglary, a first-degree felony, and criminal trespass, a third-degree felony. He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned before District Magistrate Judge Anthony Kilker. Bail was set at $25,000 cash, which wasn’t posted and Weiss remains in Schuylkill County Prison awaiting a preliminary hearing.
