Fire Severely Damages Apartment Building in Pottsville

Cause under investigation

A fire early Friday morning in Pottsville caused severe damage to a small apartment building, leaving two people displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials tell The Canary.

At about 2:40 a.m. Friday, firefighters from Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven were dispatched to 307 Laurel Blvd.

When police, EMS, and fire crews first arrived on the scene, they were greeted by heavy smoke and then fire coming from the first floor of the two-story building with two apartment units, according to Pottsville Fire Duty Chief Daniel Kleeman.

It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control and two people have been displaced as a result. Severe damage could be seen on the first floor of the building.

Neighbors at 309 Laurel Blvd. next door were forced to temporarily evacuate their home in the middle of the night, too.

No injuries to any residents or firefighters were reported.

American Red Cross is assisting those affected by Friday morning’s incident.
