The man who allegedly fired the warning shot inside the Saint Clair Walmart last November had a gun charge against him held for Schuylkill County Court on Tuesday.
Rayhiem Mitchell, of New Philadelphia, appeared before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko Tuesday for a very brief stipulated hearing.
On Nov. 10, Mitchell was reportedly jumped by two men inside the Walmart. During the struggle, he managed to retrieve a gun from his hooded sweatshirt and fire a warning shot into the air. This caused the store to be evacuated and drew a heavy police response.
Mitchell is facing a gun charge in relation to the Walmart incident because he allegedly kept the firearm concealed the entire time he was in the store and doesn’t have a permit to do so.
Police say one of the men who allegedly jumped Mitchell in the store that day was Tyre Dunn, of Pottsville, who has since found himself facing far more serious charges than the simple assault and other charges he’s looking at for the Walmart incident.
Dunn is accused of setting a Pottsville home on fire last month by throwing Molotov cocktails at it. Police say his son was in that N. 2nd St. home. After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Dunn fled the area and police eventually caught up to him in Lodi, New Jersey, where he’s now facing a pair of attempted murder charges for allegedly attacking two FBI agents while trying to evade arrest.
Dunn is being held in Schuylkill County Prison.
A third person involved in the Walmart incident, Jaheim Gregory, of Pottsville, is also accused of jumping Mitchell inside the store back in November. A preliminary hearing for Dunn and Gregory on the Walmart charges is currently scheduled for March 4.
