PennDOT has placed Tier 3 restrictions on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County due to the ongoing snowstorm.
Other roadways in the region are also affected by Tier 3 restrictions, including:
- Interstate 78 in Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton counties.
- Interstate 80 in Carbon and Monroe counties.
- Interstate 380 in Monroe County.
- U.S. 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
- Route 33 in Monroe and Northampton counties.
Tier 3 restrictions ban commercial vehicles from the roadway except those with loaded single trailers with chains or approved Alternate Traction Devices. Further, school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, and RVs are not permitted on these roads. Passenger trucks, SUVs, and cars towing trailers are also restricted.
Passenger trucks, SUVs, and cars are permitted on Tier 3-restricted roads but the speed limit on I-81 in Schuylkill County, I-80 in Carbon and Monroe counties, and I-380 in Monroe County has been reduced to 45 mph.
