A New York man is facing an aggravated assault charge following an incident late last month in Schuylkill County.
According to court documents filed on Dec. 23 by State Police-Schuylkill Haven, Troopers were called to a home in Lake Wynonah, South Manheim Township, shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 29 for a report of a domestic assault possibly involving a knife.
Police first heard from a neighbor to the alleged domestic assault who said both of his neighbors showed up at his house with what appeared to be knife markings.
Shortly after learning that, police interviewed Pawel Bazydlo, 38, of Westbury, NY, who said he and his wife were drinking and got into a verbal argument on the couch. He says his wife grabbed a full wine bottle and hit him on the forehead. Police say they saw a small laceration above his right eye. He also denied the existence of a knife involved in the incident.
However, during interviews with police, the wife did admit to hitting her husband with a wine bottle but that was only because she was afraid of him. She said there were multiple domestic violence incidents involving her husband when they lived in New York.
During the argument, she said she grabbed a knife from the kitchen while her husband was charging aggressively at her. Pawel grabbed the knife out of her hand and began swinging it at her, police were told.
While waving the knife, the wife said she was struck on the forearm and police say they observed a deep laceration on her right arm.
Pawel Bazydlo has been charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault as well as a misdemeanor for simple assault and a summary harassment offense. A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled as of Dec. 29.
