Today begins National Apprenticeship Week and Schuylkill Technology Center is joining in the celebration.
This year, National Apprenticeship Week runs from Nov. 17-23.
During this week, STC will feature a daily spotlight on students enrolled in the STC Pre-apprenticeship Program, which is coordinated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Works Union Local 743 (IBEW).
STC’s Pre-apprenticeship Program is conducted in coordination with IBEW. It’s an after-school program for 12th grade students in Schuylkill County who are interested in becoming Journeymen Electricians.
When students complete the apprenticeship program, they get an interview with IBEW Local 743. If students are accepted into the union, program participants are exempt from the first year of the five-year journeyman apprenticeship program.
The theme for this year’s National Apprenticeship Week is “10 Years of Engagement, Expansion and Innovation” and it aims to reflect on the power of Registered Apprenticeship and its attempt to create avenues for career seekers.
