Communities across Schuylkill County recently learned that they’ve been awarded state grant funds.
The funding comes from the Local Share Account. Local Share Account funds come from gaming revenue the state collects and the money awarded is meant to support community and economic development projects.
The top award in Schuylkill County went to Deer Lake, which gets $700,000 to begin repairing the deteriorating Deer Lake Dam.
Minersville is getting $640,000 to renovate the first floor of its municipal building. And Palo Alto is getting $600,000 to expand its municipal building and create an emergency shelter in the borough.

The $106,000 allocated to a part-time police force, Mahanoy Township seems logical, such a populated place and growing township. LOL, Do they need a police vehicle worth that much? Most townships with a declining population like that are merging with other departments in America or are covered by the Sheriff or State Police.
