The offices of Greater Pottsville Area Sewer Authority are getting a major overhaul.
Last week, board members unanimously approved a $135,770 renovation project to the GPASA offices located within Pottsville’s City Hall.
The renovations, according to Acting Executive Director Joe Spotts, include construction of walls and doors within the current office space to separate different departments within the administrative area.
It’ll also include new office equipment.
The work is being done by Office Service Co., of Reading, which is a COSTARS supplier, meaning the job didn’t have to go out for bid.
Spotts said it’s been about 35 years since the office was last renovated.
Part of the reason for the high price tag will be the asbestos abatement that is required when the carpet is pulled up, exposing the asbestos floor tiles below it.
The original estimate for the work was more than $151,000 but the price was negotiated down to the amount approved by the board last week.
Money to pay for the project is coming from the $1.2 million Capital Improvement fund the sewer authority has at its disposal.
Personnel Moves
The board said at last week’s meeting that it’ll also be looking to finalize the Executive Director’s position in the next month, with a decision likely coming at its October meeting.
Earlier this year, then-Executive Director Tim Yingling retired from the position and Spotts was named as the Acting Executive Director.
Board members also approved the hiring of three new employees who will work as Assistant Plant Operators: Mike Botto, Joe Devine Jr., and Brice Brazinsky. Their onboarding is likely to be spaced out over the course of the next six weeks.
