Motorists who use Route 209 through Reilly Township are going to need to find an alternate route for the next three weeks, starting Friday.
A bridge replacement project over Swatara Creek, between Newtown and Branchdale, is scheduled to start on July 26.
It has a projected completion date of Aug. 16, at the end of the day, according to Matthew Daubert, of JVI Group Inc., the company doing the bridge replacement.
Daubert tells The Canary that Road Closed signs will be posted at the last open road on either side of the bridge.
Major Detour
Route 209, from outside Minersville to Tremont, is a heavily-traveled roadway in Schuylkill County. This road closure is likely to cause some headaches who use the road daily.
The detour route is quite circuitous, too.
To get around the bridge replacement project, motorists will have to use Route 901 to Interstate 81 to Route 25 and vice-versa, depending on which way you’re traveling.
So, if you use this section of Route 209 affected by the bridge replacement project in Reilly Township, you’re going to want to allow yourself some extra travel time for the next few weeks.
