A Schuylkill County woman is facing several charges after police say she made a false report of a suicide late last year.
According to an affidavit filed in District Court by State Police-Schuylkill Haven, a Trooper was dispatched to an area on Ann St. in Norwegian Township in November 2024 for a report of a man hanging in a shack.
After combing the area, police say they found no evidence of such an event happening and determined that the caller – identified as 35-year-old Erika Rhein, of Norwegian Township – had made it up. Further, they also concluded that she was under the influence of a controlled substance.
As police attempted to place Rhein in the back of their patrol vehicle, she refused and threw herself on the ground. Rhein then requested medical attention and EMS personnel transported her to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville for evaluation.
Rhein has been charged with making false reports, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. She’ll have to answer to these charges at a preliminary hearing currently scheduled for May 6 before District Magistrate Judge David Plachko.
