Collin Adams, a 2024 Pine Grove Area High School graduate, presented his award-winning essay on the importance of the First Amendment in America to Schuylkill County Commissioners on Wednesday.
For the contest, sponsored by the American Legion, Adams followed the prompt, “Why the First Amendment is important in America”.
This essay has earned Adams $3,600 in scholarship money as he’s risen through the ranks of the American Legion’s essay contest.
Adams won the contest for the Pine Grove Post, which earned him a $500 scholarship. The essay then earned him another $300 scholarship when he won at the Legion’s district level. Another win in the Southeast section contest garnered him $300 more in scholarship money.
At the statewide level, Adams finished in third place and earned another $2,500.
You’d think this would encourage him to pursue a career in writing but Adams says he’s pursuing a path in prosthetics.
