UPDATE: National Weather Service has updated the Wind Advisory. It now begins at 9 p.m. Friday and lasts until 9 p.m. Saturday.
ORIGINAL REPORT BELOW:
Wind gusts up to 55 mph on Saturday have prompted National Weather Service to place Schuylkill County under a Wind Advisory for much of the day Saturday.
The Wind Advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday.
Steady wind speeds between 20-30 mph will be accentuated by 45-55 mph gusts throughout the day as another wintry storm makes its way through the area.
Although this is a winter storm, Schuylkill County doesn’t figure to see much in the way of winter weather from it.
However, when precipitation does start to fall on Schuylkill County later in the day and through the nighttime hours on Friday, it could start as heavy wet snow.
A light accumulation of slushy snow could occur closer to Interstate 80. Otherwise, more than inch of rain is possible Friday evening and night here in Schuylkill County from this storm.
And although the Wind Advisory does not go into effect until Saturday, it will still be windy on Friday.
Wind speeds could top out between 40-45 mph on Friday evening and early Friday night. National Weather Service expects 6-8 lull in winds late Friday night before they pick back up – and get stronger – on Saturday.
The strong winds could blow around unsecured objects and bring down trees and utility poles, which could lead to more power outages here in Schuylkill County.
Earlier this week, the heavy rain storm led to more than 1,500 PPL Electric customers losing service for a period of time Tuesday into Wednesday.
