Surveillance cameras designed to monitor for illegal parking will be installed this week in Pottsville.
Safety Stick cameras, manufactured by Municipal Parking Services, will go in at 10 different locations around the city. They’re expected to go online beginning December 18.
Safety Stick cameras are posts with cameras inside. The cameras can provide a 240-degree view of the area where they’re located. This is an example of a Safety Stick camera:
The exact location of these cameras hasn’t yet been disclosed to The Canary but you may see them in areas like intersections downtown. (NOTE: When we have the exact locations of the cameras, we’ll update you.)
Near where the cameras are located, you’ll see signs indicating that parking violations – like parking within 25 feet of an intersection – will result in a $35 fine.
When a vehicle comes in view of a Safety Stick, the camera is activated. It’ll note how long the vehicle has stayed in the violation zone with timestamps.
Pottsville Parking Authority will determine if a vehicle in range of the Safety Stick has violated the parking rule. Municipal Parking Services is then notified of a violation and the vehicle owner receives a parking ticket in the mail from MPS, not the Parking Authority.
MPS says its Safety Stick cameras can reduce illegal parking by 95%.

Wow-Thanhs Putzville!! Another reason to not visit your city. Hopefully the get the treatment the cameras in London got/are getting. Remember anyone disabling these is fighting for your freedom. They don’t own the street, you DO

It sounds like Pottsville now is becoming a mecca of tourism:-)
Seriously, there is not much there to see or to visit except the local government offices. It is a final nail in a casket of a few businesses that left in Pottsville.

Pottsville taxpayers should be asking how much the safety stick camera system is costing them. Are the cameras being leased or purchased outright? If MPS (headquarters in Texas) personnel are viewing the footage, making the decision whether a violation has occurred, and then issuing the citation, how much is MPS being paid for their services? Yet, Lipton draws a salary, receives an annual BONUS, for what??

PPA is making the call on whether something is a violation and MPS is creating and sending the ticket on behalf of PPA.

It’s a terrible thing really. The city is spending hard earned taxpayers money to only hurt everyone with more money being taken from us as well as punish us. I personally think they should fix these terrible roads with our money first instead and not by dangerous/useless tar and chip. it’s time the ones who vote this garbage in realize it’s the working class that keep these towns going but it’s the working class that get hit the hardest with this ridiculous nonsense.

Seems like an odd place for one of these things, as if any place is a good place for it.
