A Schuylkill County man is currently in prison after allegedly firing a gun out of the sunroof of his vehicle one morning in Pottsville.
According to court papers acquired by The Canary, Pottsville Police have charged David Rivera, 53, of Pottsville, with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct following an incident on the morning of Nov. 22.
Police say they received reports of gunshots being fired in the area of the 400 block of S. Centre St. that morning.
Witnesses interviewed told police they heard a gun being fired that morning. A search of that area turned up no evidence of a gun being fired, however. Police found no shell casings.
At about 3:30 p.m. on the 22nd, police say a man who says he was a passenger in the car with Rivera that morning confirmed that it was Rivera who fired a gun out of the sunroof of his vehicle.
The witness reportedly said Rivera fired at least 5 shots out of the sunroof and believed the shell casings were inside his vehicle.
Rivera was arrested on the 22nd and arraigned before District Magistrate David Rossi. Bail was set at $50,000 cash, which he hasn’t posted.
A Preliminary Hearing in this case is set for Dec. 11 in front of District Magistrate James Reiley.
