Shopping Cart Mishap Leads to Argument

Police file a harassment charge after the incident.

shopping cart incident

A New Philadelphia man was charged with harassment after an incident involving a shopping cart earlier this month at a local shopping plaza.

According to information from State Police in Schuylkill Haven, they were summoned to the parking lot at the Pottsville Park Plaza, in Norwegian Twp. at a little after 11 a.m. on June 18. Pottsville Park Plaza is the home of the Weis Markets grocery store.

Police say 63-year-old Thomas Anders, of New Philadelphia, was walking his shopping cart back to his vehicle in the parking lot. Anders tried to “squeeze through the parking stall” with the cart and accidentally hit the vehicle of a 30-year-old Reading woman.

This apparently upset the Reading woman. Police says she got out of her vehicle and confronted Anders. That lead to a verbal argument between the two.

The Reading woman says Anders “attempted to hit her in the head but it was blocked,” police report.

Anders is now facing a summary harassment charge after this incident.
