Launch Pottsville Finalist – Que Brothers Barbecue and Southern Cuisine

It’s time to meet the next entrepreneur competing in the Launch Pottsville business competition. Pottsville Area Development Corp. just released a video introduction from 1 of the 10 finalists, Que Brothers Barbecue and Southern Cuisine. The owner wants to open a barbecue and Southern cuisine restaurant in Pottsville.

The goal of Launch Pottsville is to develop new business owners in the city. PADCO believes the winners of this year’s contest, to be decided in a few months, will be up and running before the end of the year.

The initial entry field for the Launch Pottsville contest has been narrowed down and the public can learn a little bit about each of the finalists.

Que Brothers Barbecue and Southern Cuisine is founded by Willie “Pops” Fairell.

Fairell details what he wants his business to be in Pottsville.

“We completely smoke every meat,” he says. “Every meat is smoked before we put it on the grill. Our sandwich is a brisket sandwich but it’s also a cheesesteak.”

Fairell identifies one of the challenges he sees with his business.

“It’ll be a challenge to start, being the first black barbecue business owner here,” he says. “But l love the area. It’s very diverse over here. There’s plenty of nationalities and people love barbecue.”

These videos are part of Phase 2 of the Launch Pottsville competition, a chance for the public to learn about the . The winner at the end gets $150,000 in cash and pro bono services to help start their business.

During Phase 2, the Launch Pottsville finalists work with local mentors to refine their business plan and goals. They also get a chance to scout some real estate in Pottsville as a potential location for their business.

The contest ends with a Shark Tank-style elevator pitch presentation in front of an audience at Schuylkill YMCA on April 28.
