Police Trying to Identify Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Luzerne County

Police are looking for information and the identity of a truck driver they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash along Interstate 81 in Luzerne County late Friday night.

According to information from the State Police barracks in Hazleton, the hit-and-run incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Friday in Butler Twp., Luzerne County, on the southbound ramp at Exit 151B.

Police say they received reports of a person laying on the road of the off ramp. That’s where they found Dionys Ramirez-Moya, 24, of Hazleton. They determined that he was likely hit by a semi truck and trailer.

Ramirez-Moya was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they didn’t attempt any life-saving measures on scene due to the severity of the victim’s injuries.
