Wind Advisory, Snow Squalls to Usher in Weekend Storm

We’re still looking at a plowable snow storm on Saturday across Schuylkill County.

But it’s not going to be quiet heading into the weekend, especially Thursday.

Strong winds and some potential snow will usher in the ingredients setting us up for Saturday’s snowfall.

Wind Advisory – Schuylkill County

In order to get that snow, we’re going to need some cold air. And that’s flying in on Thursday as winds out of the northwest will get wicked across the Coal Region.

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for Schuylkill County on Thursday, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. NWS predicts sustained winds from 15-25 mph throughout the day. Gusts could reach 50 mph.

Expect to hear the fire whistles blaring all day Thursday. Power outages caused by downed trees and power lines should be expected throughout the day Thursday.

Snow Squalls Expected

The wind blowing in from the northwest is expected to create some snow squalls, too.

According to WNEP-TV meterologist John Hickey, we can expect to see some of those squalls spread over portions of Schuylkill County. The squalls would have more of a chance of impacting the evening commute than any time earlier in the day.
