Bands We Want to See at the 2020 Yuengling Summer Celebration

depeche mode

On Thursday, Yuengling Brewery announced the date for the 2020 Summer Celebration.

It’s the sequel to the wildly popular 2019 edition that celebrated the brewery’s 190th anniversary.

Yuengling Summer Celebration 2020

Yuengling says this year’s event will be July 11, 2020.

Portions of downtown Pottsville will be shut down for street vendors and a free concert. The Yuengling 2020 Summer Celebration runs from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on July 11.

Yes, there will be fireworks, starting at 9:30 p.m.

The brewery says no tours will happen on the day of the Summer Celebration. But last year, it was elbow-to … cornhole inside the former Yuengling Ice Cream factory on Mahantongo Street. Plenty to see (and buy at the gift shop) in there. Also, they had cornhole games set up.

Yuengling is promising longer hours and a better overall experience in 2020.

What they’re not talking about right now is who’s the headline act.

So, we thought we’d offer up some suggestions …

Suggestions for Yuengling Summer Celebration 2020 Concert

Last year, the 90s alt-rock band Better Than Ezra put on a great show for the thousands in attendance.

Let’s assume they’re not coming back.

So, who should be the headliner? How about these suggestions?

Toby Keith

Could be a little pie-in-the-sky here but not completely implausible. He did just play in Bloomsburg over the summer.

Kid Rock

Ridiculous to consider Kid Rock? Maybe. There’s literally no wrong answer here. If it happens, we look like geniuses.

OK, so those are two acts we think would be perfect for a Yuengling Summer Celebration in Pottsville. But let’s think along the lines of last year’s show. We’re going back to the 90s. Well, the two above were pretty big in the 90s, too, but more on the alt-rock side.

One caveat here for anyone on this list is that they have to be touring or have toured in the last year.

Vanilla Ice

Vanilla is still out there cookin’ MCs like a pound of bacon. Last year, he appeared at something called the Mega Beer Festival in Miami.

Counting Crows

Adam Duritz looks like a caricature of his former self but this band was at the top of their game in the 1990s. Name another song besides “Mr. Jones”.

Depeche Mode

The Canary started researching bands from the 90s that are still actively touring to come up with this list and for some reason, Depeche Mode was buried under a bunch of garbage.

We would LOVE to see Depeche Mode in Pottsville. So would you. If you’ve never heard of them — if that’s possible — look them up. You’ve heard the songs. Again, this could be a stretch but Yuengling needs to flex a little brand power here to make this happen.

Everclear

Not on our favorites’ list but we’re hoping to get some realistic acts on here in the off chance we’re right about one of these.

Everclear had two big songs, Santa Monica and Father of Mine, two notorious earworms.

So, that covers the 90s alt-rock bands. Feel like feathering your hair and letting it down for the day? Hair metal is good for that and luckily, we’ve had some experience with hair metal bands in the past.

Better call Mike down at Goodfellas to get the booking info for:

For an hour of their show, you’d find out who was really into Quiet Riot. Then, right before the fireworks, you can sing along to “Cum on the Feel the Noize”.

And if you can’t get a hold of Mike, look into

Warrant

Singers of one of the grossest double-entendre songs ever recorded, Warrant would pack the streets of Pottsville in a Minersville minute.

Suggestions

We’re sure the folks at Yuengling have a short list already. We can only hope they’ve got at least one or two of our suggestions on there.

Who would you like to see come to Pottsville this summer? Let us know in the Comments section below.

Michaels plays here one more time and he’s the de facto mayor of Mount Carbon.
Good suggestions though. Forgot about Live.
Also forgot that we included Everclear on this list.
