Blue Mountain’s run to the PIAA Class 5A baseball championship came up a little short.
The Eagles committed 6 errors in a tightly played game and fell to Red Land, 2-1, on Tuesday.
Each team managed just 5 hits.
Aside from the fielding and throwing errors, Blue Mountain suffered a tough injury in the 3rd inning. That’s when starting pitcher Nate Nabholz went down with an injury. Nabholz allowed just 1 hit through 2 2/3 innings before the injury.
He was replaced by Drew Grace, who went 4 1/3 innings on short notice and kept the Eagles in the game.
Red Land got on the board in the 5th inning but Blue Mountain countered in the bottom half to tie it. The Patriots added the scoring run in the 6th.
The strong pitching outing was matched by Red Land pitchers. They combined to strike out 11 Blue Mountain batters but walked 5.
