Two people are facing prostitution charges after a reported physical altercation at a Schuylkill Haven apartment revealed an alleged sex-for-Oakley Meta sunglasses agreement.
Brayan Kostyun, 33, of Reading, and Lysa Sunshine Fortune, 32, of Schuylkill Haven, are facing charges following an incident that allegedly occurred at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 17 at an apartment building on St. John St.
Borough police say they responded to that address for a report of a disturbance. As they got there, police met with Kostyun at the top of the stairs, still actively arguing, and ordered him downstairs. Police then made contact with a male witness who was out of breath and appeared to have recently been in a fight.
The male witness told police that Fortune texted him stating she was feeling uncomfortable with a male friend, identified as Kostyun, who was in her apartment. The witness told police he went to Fortune’s apartment, where Kostyun was heavily intoxicated, loud, and getting in his face. The witness asked Kostyun to leave and called him “son,” which the witness told police caused Kostyun to become enraged. Kostyun allegedly got into the witness’s face, said he’s not going to put up with the “son shit” and started punching him, leading to a physical altercation.
Fortune provided police with a similar account, saying Kostyun drank too much and was loud and confrontational. Fortune told police she tried to tell Kostyun to stop drinking, but he continued, prompting her to leave the apartment and flee upstairs. Kostyun later told police he did not fight back and was only defending himself against the witness.
During subsequent interviews with both parties, police say they learned that the dispute stemmed from an online meetup. Kostyun told police he met Fortune on the website SkipTheGames, a site police say is essentially used for prostitution. Kostyun told police he agreed to give Fortune a pair of Oakley Meta sunglasses, valued at about $500, in exchange for sex.
Fortune denied making an agreement for sex, telling police that Kostyun brought the glasses as a birthday gift. Fortune reportedly told police she met Kostyun online to “drink, eat, and watch a movie,” but admitted to police that she was openly looking for “birthday sex.” She further stated she “likes sex but doesn’t want a boyfriend or anything,” but told police she never agreed to have sex with Kostyun. Fortune claimed that after Kostyun had a few drinks, he became “pushy.”
While interviewing Fortune inside her apartment, police observed a stripper pole in the middle of the kitchen area. Fortune told police she does dances on the pole but reiterated she did not agree to have sex.
Kostyun provided police with text messages from his phone detailing his arrangement with Fortune. The text exchange, provided to police on a messaging app and standard text, reads as follows:
Brayan: Heyy
Lysa: Hey
Brayan: You available? You free I should say lol
Lysa: For a little yeah. I have someone coming sometime after like 6-7pm
Brayan: Oh, I was gonna say, I got them Oakley Metas I’d trade you for a few hours and we could drink & chill, could be a crazy night hahaha
Lysa: Oooooh for real!? The Oakleys are amazing!!! When do you wanna come by? I’ve got lots of drinks.
Brayan: I mean, I’d like to hangout tonight, but it sounds like you have plans.
Lysa: Those Oakleys are worth anything haha
Brayan: Well, would you wanna chill tonight? Not no weirdo shit lol I’ll door dash us food too hahaha, are you going to cancel on him or not
Lysa: Yeah, you’re cuter anyways
Brayan: Send me your address hun
Lysa: ** Saint John St. Schuylkill Haven
Brayan: I’ll be there in an hour. I’m coming from Reading. Have a drink ready for us. & here’s my number, I’m texting you off an app lol ***-***-****. So we can hangout all night & catch a vibe?
The messages then continue via standard text, police say.
Brayan: Hey, it’s me Brayan with the Oakleys lol can I call you?
Lysa: yeah sure
Brayan: can you send me a picture love, 30 min out
Lysa: Awesome, yeah, just got out of the shower. (sends picture of herself nude wrapped in a towel)
Fortune also provided police with the text messages between herself and the male witness during the time Kostyun was at her apartment. The text exchange reads as follows:
Lysa: Guess who’s getting the Oakley Meta’s
[Male Witness]: No way, is someone ordering them for you?
Lysa: They got them, he’s coming tonight, he’s 5min away
[Male Witness]: no chance, he’s bringing them here?
Lysa: (sends picture of the Oakley Meta’s)
[Male Witness]: No way lmao
Lysa: (sends picture of her wearing the glasses)
[Male Witness]: awesome bruh, how long is he staying
Lysa: idk, we’re drinking & he got us Suglia’s
[Male Witness]: may I stop in, wasn’t sure if it was a customer because he bought you meta’s
Lysa: ehhhh customer/friend, more so customer
[Male Witness]: when is he leaving?
Lysa: idk, but dude is pushy, please come down, he’s trying to get me to do shots & I’m telling him no
[Male Witness]: this ni**a is way too drunk, he’s gotta go, holy shit, dead ass will beat him up if he doesn’t get the [BLEEP] outta my face
Lysa: yeah, I’ve been trying to get him to go
[Male Witness]: did he even fu**?
Lysa: I need him gone
[Male Witness]: Did he pay besides the glasses, cuz I don’t wanna have him scammed, but like..
Lysa: Help, please
Following the interviews, police seized the Oakley Meta glasses from Fortune’s apartment and entered them into property. Police state both Kostyun and Fortune signed written statements regarding the incident.
Kostyun has been charged with a misdemeanor count of patronizing prostitutes. Fortune is facing a misdemeanor count of promoting prostitution. Both have been ordered to appear at a preliminary hearing on the charges at District Court in Orwigsburg on April 28.
