Schuylkill County Man is Victim of Identity Theft; NJ Man Charged

Warrant issued for Herman Burrell, of East Orange

Police are seeking an arrest warrant for a New Jersey man in connection with an identity theft investigation involving a fraudulent $4,900 bank withdrawal.

Police say a Schuylkill County man reported the theft on May 2, 2025. The victim, who lives in Washington Township, told police they received a fraud alert from Fulton Bank saying someone had used his information to withdraw $4,900 on April 28, 2025, at a bank branch in New Jersey.

The victim told police the bank immediately refunded the money to his account, resulting in no monetary loss.

During the investigation, police spoke with a bank fraud investigator on July 15, 2025. The investigator told police the suspect – identified as Herman Burrell, 71, of East Orange, NJ – committed the same crime in New Jersey with three other clients.

Police say Burrell was positively identified as the suspect by police in Manville, NJ. Burrell is now facing a single felony count of identity theft in Schuylkill County.
