Police have filed new charges against a wanted Schuylkill County man they say gave them the slip last week after he was spotted on the street.
Rodelfy Liriano-Corniel, 22, of Shenandoah, is now facing new charges of flight to avoid apprehension and evading arrest after police say he fled on foot from a patrol officer in Shenandoah on the morning of March 14. He is already wanted in connection with several open cases, including one in the borough in which he is accused of striking a woman with a handgun.
Police say they spotted Liriano-Corniel shortly after 9 that morning in the 100 block of S. West St. in Shenandoah. He, along with another unidentified man, attempted to conceal their faces by hiding behind a parked vehicle on W. Oak St. as police spotted them. An officer stopped his patrol vehicle near the intersection and recognized Liriano-Corniel as one of the men, police say.
Knowing of the active warrants, the officer exited the patrol vehicle and yelled “Rodelfy,” police say. Liriano-Corniel turned and looked at the officer, who then instructed him to “come here.”
Police say Liriano-Corniel immediately turned away and ran. He fled west in the 200 block of W. Oak St., turned north onto the unit block of S. Chestnut St., and then headed east in the 200 block of W. New York St., where police say they lost sight of him.
At the time of the incident, police say Liriano-Corniel was already wanted on multiple active warrants, including simple assault out of Hazelton, and another aggravated assault case being purseued by the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Office. A new warrant has been issued for his arrest.
