Two Charged with Stealing 200 Pounds of Copper from Schuylkill County Business

Stolen copper valued at about $500, police say

Two men – including one from Schuylkill County – are facing charges after police say they stole about 200 pounds of copper piping from a West Brunswick Township property earlier this year.

State Police say they were alerted to the theft on the morning of Jan. 30. The property owner reportedly told police they believed the theft occurred around 8 p.m. the night prior at a business on Pinedale Industrial Rd. Surveillance footage reportedly captured two men arriving in an older model, light blue Chevrolet pickup truck and taking the copper piping from the rear of the building.

Police say the stolen material is valued at approximately $500.

A witness provided investigators with the surveillance video and a photograph of the truck’s license plate, which authorities traced to Mark Lischak, 31, of Port Clinton. When contacted by police on Feb. 25, Lischak admitted that he and another man, identified by police as John Shrawder, 36, of Lenhartsville, Berks County, drove his pickup truck onto the property and removed the piping, police say.

Police have charged Lischak and Shrawder with misdemeanor counts of theft, theft of secondary metal, and conspiracy, as well as summary counts of criminal trespass and vehicular trespass.
