Schuylkill County Woman Accused of Intentionally Setting Her Apartment on Fire Appears in Court Tuesday

Roundup of Tuesday’s proceedings in Schuylkill County District Courts

A woman accused of setting her apartment on fire by lighting her shower curtain ablaze appeared in District Court on Tuesday.

Keyshawna Hausman is accused of intentionally setting her Tamaqua apartment on fire on Feb. 11.

When approached by police while being loaded into an ambulance, she allegedly admitted to starting the blaze. Hausman claimed she was emotionally distressed, noting she had previously warned her landlord that something bad was going to happen.

She reportedly told officers that after an altercation with other tenants earlier that day, she had “had enough” and used a lighter to set her shower curtain on fire while it was lying on the floor.

The incident resulted in three people being treated for smoke inhalation, and Hausman herself was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. As a result, she is facing felony charges of arson, aggravated arson, risking catastrophe, and criminal mischief, along with a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.

Before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer on Tuesday, Hausman waived those charges to Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.

Simple assault, disorderly conduct, and other related charges in another case against Hausman were dismissed Tuesday.
