STORM CENTER: Snow Removal Efforts Begin Across Schuylkill County

Parking restrictions, removal schedules, and more

About a foot or more of snow fell on Schuylkill County Sunday and now the efforts to get rid of it have begun.

Municipalities across Schuylkill County have begun announcing plans to remove the snow and once again are asking residents to move vehicles to facilitate those removal efforts.

Here is a collection of snow removal activities planned across Schuylkill County. Updates will be added to this page as they’re received by our newsroom.

Coaldale

Trash pickup will be on Tuesday this week.


Cressona

Trash collection – conducted by Anthracite Waste – has been pushed back a day due to snow.


Mahanoy City

There will be no parking on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the following streets in Mahanoy City:

  • Both sides of W. Mahanoy St., from D to B streets
  • D St., from Centre to W. Mahanoy streets

Middleport

Trash pickup will be on Thursday this week due to the snow.


Minersville

The Borough has announced the following schedule for ash, trash, and recycling pickup this week:

  • Wednesday: Ash and trash
  • Wednesday: Recycling on south side is cancelled
  • Friday: Ash

Palo Alto

At 5 a.m. Tuesday, Borough officials say Penn St. will start to be reopened.

Following removal of snow on that street, the north (odd-numbered side) of Savory St. will undergo snow removal efforts. Crews will work from Williams St. and move west removing snow.


Port Carbon

Clean-up on designated Snow Emergency Routes began Monday and Borough officials expect it to continue through Friday.

Crews are starting on Third St. in Schoentown and plan to move as quickly as possible through the remaining routes.

Borough officials ask residents to adhere to parking restrictions during snow removal efforts.


Pottsville

The City will be conducting snow removal operations starting today from 4 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday along N. Centre St., from Harrison St. and working south. There is no parking on Centre St. from Harrison to Norwegian streets.


Schuylkill Haven

The Borough says it’s begun clearing snow from streets and expects these efforts to continue for several days. There is currently no timeframe for when on-street parking will be available along Snow Emergency Routes.

Residents may be asked to move their vehicles from municipal lots during this time.

The following are designated Snow Emergency Routes in Schuylkill Haven:

  • N. Garfield
  • Center Ave.
  • Dock St.
  • Haven St.
  • Paxson Ave.
  • E. Main St.
  • Ave. A (Main St. to Market St.)
  • W. Main St.
  • Union St. (Parkway to Ave. A)
  • S. Margaretta St.
  • St. Peter St. (Main to Union St.)
  • St. Peter St. (Liberty to William St.)
  • St. John St.
  • William St.
  • E. Liberty St.
  • Parkway
  • Columbia St.
  • N. Berne St.
  • S. Berne St.

Shenandoah

The Borough announced Monday a phased snow removal plan as well as an announcement on trash hauling.

Tamaqua

Tamaqua has released a thorough snow removal schedule that begins Tuesday at 10 a.m. and continues through Friday, Jan. 30.

Residents are being told to remove vehicles two hours prior to the posted removal time on their street.

Tower City

Snow removal has begun on Grand Ave. in the borough. Expect delays and traffic control to be in place.


Tremont

Mayor Justin Moeller has extended the Declaration of Disaster Emergency until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Snow removal continues Tuesday on the following streets: Main, Laurel, Line, and North. Parking is prohibited on those streets. All vehicles parked there will be towed, the Borough says.

Clay St. is now open for residential parking as all snow has been removed. Spring St. is nearing completion and once snow is removed on it, parking will once again be permitted.

Parking on Spring St. will be permitted once all trucks and loaders are off the street.
