Schuylkill County Winter Storm Alerts

Municipal, county, and state announcements and service alerts from around Schuylkill County

A significant winter storm is likely to impact Schuylkill County this weekend.

Weather forecasters are still trying to figure out just how much snow will fall on Schuylkill County and when. Check out the link below for the latest information on the forecasts:

Local Storm Announcements

Ahead of the storm, municipalities and other organizations are in the readiness planning phase. The following is a list of announcements that have been made that affect you going into this weekend.

Frackville

A Snow Emergency is in effect in Frackville from 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27.

During a Snow Emergency, parking is prohibited on all Snow Emergency Routes in the borough. Driving on Snow Emergency Routes is limited only to vehicles with snow tires or chains.

Parking is banned on these Snow Emergency Routes in Frackville:

  • Lehigh Ave.: Entire length from Borough line to Borough line
  • Oak St.: Entire length from Borough line to Borough line

Parking on a Snow Emergency Route during a Snow Emergency can result in a fine up to $15 (plus court costs). Driving on a Snow Emergency Route without snow tires or chains is a fine up to $25 (plus court costs).

Girardville

When 3 or more inches of snow falls in Girardville, the following snow removal protocols go into place:

No parking on the first day of the storm on the following streets: Preston Ave., Lower Railroad St., Beech St., and the even-numbered sides of Second, A, B, C, and Ogden streets.

No parking on the second day of the storm on the odd-numbered sides of Second, A, B, C, and Ogden streets.

These restrictions remain in effect until snow removal is completed.

Mahanoy City

A Snow Ban is in effect from 10 p.m Saturday, Jan. 24 until 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 in Mahanoy City.

During this time, there will be no parking on Centre, Main, Liberty Hill, and South streets in the borough. Police warn that vehicles parked on these streets during the Snow Ban will be ticketed and towed.

Palo Alto

Effective at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, there will be no parking on the north (odd-numbered) side of Savory St. until further notice.

Vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense. Do not park in yellow zones.

The Borough is also asking residents to help clear fire hydrants of snow by shoveling the front and sides.

Pine Grove

A Snow Emergency is in effect for Pine Grove starting at 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27.

When a snow emergency is issued, vehicles parked along a snow route shall be promptly removed from the route. No vehicles shall remain on the snow routes until the snow emergency has been lifted.

If the vehicles are not removed from the Snow Emergency Routes, they will be ticketed and towed.

The following streets are designated as Snow Emergency Routes:

  1. E. & W. Mill Street
  2. E. Pottsville Street
  3. Wood Street
  4. North & South Tulpehocken Street
  5. Snyder Avenue
  6. Orchard Street
  7. Spruce Street

There will be parking available in the lot behind Borough Hall.

Saint Clair

From 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, until 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, there will be no parking on Hancock St. and Second St. in the borough.

Shenandoah

Borough officials met Thursday to discuss snowstorm prep.

Tamaqua

Street Snow Removal: During the winter season, the borough may conduct snow removal on various streets. Schedules will be posted the day prior on the borough’s Facebook page and at www.tamaquaborough.com, with start times varying based on conditions. Residents must move their vehicles from these posted areas; failure to do so will result in the vehicle being ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Property Owner Responsibilities: Property owners must clear a three-foot-wide path on their sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm ends. Failure to do so may result in a $25 fine for the first offense, with higher fines for subsequent violations. Residents are prohibited from throwing snow into the street, intersections, or onto storm drains, as this creates hazardous conditions and may result in fines. However, clearing snow around fire hydrants and storm drains is encouraged.
