Police in Schuylkill County seized more than four pounds of methamphetamine during a controlled buy this morning.
Working with an FBI Special Agent, police in Shenandoah say they conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine in the borough shortly after 11 a.m.
The confidential informant arrived at Shenandoah’s police station on Wednesday. That undercover agent was followed to a predetermined location within the borough by the FBI agent where an arranged meeting with Abdul Sheppard, of Pottstown, had been established police say.
Sheppard arrived at the location in a silver Nissan Rogue, police say, and the informant got into the vehicle on the passenger side. Moments later, police who had the vehicle under surveillance, say they saw Sheppard exit the vehicle and remove a package from the back seat. At the time, Sheppard was wearing black pants, a brown coat, and a fluorescent green crossing guard vest.
He then re-enters the vehicle and reportedly hands the informant the package. The informant then returns to the Shenandoah Police station and turned over five plastic bags containing a substance that later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
The total weight of the suspected meth was 4.5 pounds, police say.
Shenandoah Police say they conducted a traffic stop on Sheppard’s vehicle shortly after the controlled buy and he was taken into custody.
Sheppard was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker Wednesday afternoon and charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver. Kilker set bail at $50,000 cash and remanded Sheppard to Schuylkill County Prison.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29.
