Police Seek Info on Schuylkill County Hit-and-Run Crash on Saturday

Crash occurred at W. Centre and N. Gilbert streets in Shenandoah

Police in Schuylkill County are looking to the public for information about a suspected hit-and-run crash that occurred over the weekend.

State Police say that at shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 17), an older model, dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe (or possibly a Suburban) was traveling west on W. Centre St. in Shenandoah, approaching the intersection with N. Gilbert St.

The driver of the Tahoe, police say, attempted to turn right onto N. Gilbert St. but lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a metal mail box and STOP sign. The Tahoe then hit the home at 401 W. Centre St. and came to a stop facing west.

Police say significant damage was done to the residence that was struck by the Tahoe.

The driver of the Tahoe then allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and struck a parked vehicle at the intersection of W. Centre and N. Gilbert streets. The parked vehicle sustained minor damage, police say.

After hitting the parked vehicle, the driver of the Tahoe fled the scene without contacting police and reporting the crash.

Anyone with information on this incident is being asked to phone State Police-Frackville at 570-874-5300.
