One-third of Schuylkill County is experiencing severe drought conditions while the entire county is now experiencing some level of drought.
According to the latest data from the US Drought Monitor, 32% of the area has Severe Drought conditions right now, all in eastern Schuylkill County.
In the last week, the entire county was classified as having at least moderate drought conditions. That’s a change from the previous Drought Monitor update on Jan. 6, which had a small portion of the county under Abnormally Dry conditions.
Relief from the drought conditions in Schuylkill County does not appear to be coming any time soon. And Schuylkill County has been experiencing some level of drought or dry conditions for the better part of the last year.
The latest 7-day forecast from National Weather Service has practically no precipitation in it.
As a result of the drought conditions, Aqua Pennsylvania has issued a Mandatory Water Conservation notice for some of the municipalities it serves in Schuylkill County: Butler Township, Gordon, and Girardville.
Residents in those communities are being ordered to cease all non-essential water use, like washing vehicles and power washing.
