Canary Rescue Crew: Chewbacca is Ready to Settle In

Don’t let a catch like this slip away. Chewbacca is packed and ready to go.

The Canary Rescue Crew is highlighting adoptable pets from shelters and rescues from across Schuylkill County. This year, we’re stepping up our game and profiling a pet a day.

Our goal is simple: getting these lovable cats, dogs, and even a few bunnies out of the shelters and into their forever homes as soon as possible.

Today, let’s meet Chewbacca, a 4-year-old Boston Terrier and Border Collie mix who is ready to be the loyal sidekick to your Han Solo. Currently waiting for his forever family at Hillside SPCA, Chewbacca is the kind of dog who proves that rescue dogs aren’t “broken”, they are just waiting for the right opportunity to shine.

Chewbacca brings the best of both worlds to the table: the intelligence of a collie and the affectionate, sturdy nature of a Boston. He isn’t just looking for a house; he’s looking for a playmate.

This boy lights up when he sees a ball or a toy, his zest for life evident in every happy tail wag. But unlike a wild puppy, Chewbacca has manners. He walks great on a leash, making him the perfect companion for strolls around the neighborhood or hikes on our local trails without the arm-tugging struggle.

Here’s where Chewbacca truly stands out from the pack. It is rare to find a dog with a resume this impressive: he gets along with other dogs, has previously lived with cats, and has lived with children. He is house-trained and ready to settle in immediately.

He would thrive in a home that loves to play but also appreciates a dog that knows the routine. Whether you are a busy family looking for a tolerant friend for the kids or an active couple looking for a ball-chasing buddy, Chewbacca fits the mold.
