Shawn Butler is now Schuylkill County Sheriff.
Butler, of Frackville, was sworn in as Sheriff during a ceremony on Dec. 31 inside Courtroom 1 at Schuylkill County Courthouse.
He ran unopposed for the seat in the November General Election, gaining the Republican nomination after defeating challenger Frank DiMarco in the Primary.
Butler had been Chief Deputy Sheriff under the now-retired Sheriff Joseph Groody. In addition to his role of Sheriff, Butler is also a police officer with Butler Township.
During his swearing-in, Butler was overwhelmed with emotion at times as he thanked the many people who he credits with helping him achieve the position of Sheriff.
“Never in a million years did I ever anticipate that I’d be here and doing this job,” Butler said. “There are so many people that helped me along this journey.”
Among those he thanked are wife, Shannon, their five children, his current and former colleagues, as well as his campaign team.
Butler has chosen Timothy Reinoehl to serve as his Chief Deputy within the department.
During his swearing-in ceremony, all deputies of the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office were also sworn in to their roles by President Judge Jacqueline Russell.
