Alexander Gosch, the sixth generation of the family to join the agency, speaks about the legacy of the business and his personal journey into the world of insurance.
What inspired you to start this business, and how did your personal journey lead you here?
“My name is Alex Gosch, and I am the 6th generation here in the agency. As I would imagine with most kids growing up, I never really dreamed of becoming an insurance agent. However, as life goes, you graduate high school, then go off to college, and start to realize what you want to do in life and what you value. My major was Pre-Physical Therapy and I was actively doing internships, taking my GREs, and applying to grad schools to pursue that.
As I was doing those internships, I realized it wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be. Around the same time, and perhaps he sensed my hesitation, my father (Doug Gosch, President) approached me about the family business. He was looking for a personal lines agent, and he thought I would be a great fit. It’s all about connecting with people, understanding their concerns, and problem-solving. After studying, getting licensed, and getting in front of clients, it felt like exactly where I was supposed to be. I love talking with people, being involved in our local community, and being a part of our small family business. That’s what I value in life, the relationships I’ve formed. I believe those relationships are what make small local businesses of any kind so special.”

Can you share an interesting fact or story about your business that most people may not know?
“We are still appointed to the Farmers Fire Insurance Company of York, which was the very first company we represented back in 1879.”
How does your business contribute to the local community or participate in community events?
“We are members of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Orwigsburg Area Business and Professional Association, Make-A-Wish Partner Club, and sponsor many local youth sports teams and events to help give back to our community.”
What do you want customers to experience when they interact with your business?
“Our goal is for our clients to feel seen and heard. We aim to provide valuable insight into the protection of their valuable assets. People in our community work really hard for what they have, and we take great pride in making sure it’s properly covered.”
