Two women have been charged with illegally obtaining SNAP benefits from the Schuylkill County Assistance Office.
The state’s Inspector General’s office has filed felony fraudulent obtainment of assistance charges against Ashley Teichman, 27, formerly of Tamaqua, and Eliana Estremera, 36, of McAdoo.
Authorities say Teichman obtained more than $13,000 in SNAP and Subsidized Child Care benefits when she failed to report income of a Legally Responsible Relative who lived with her at a home on Brew St. in Tamaqua.
That relative held a job between May 24, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022, and failed to report income.
During that time, Teichman allegedly collected $10,208 in SNAP benefits and $3,311.75 in SCC benefits, the Inspector General’s office says in its affidavit.
Teichman is facing two counts of assistance fraud.
Estremera, authorities say, failed to report income from Jan. 13 through May 31, 2023. During that time, she reportedly collected $1,443 in SNAP benefits.
She is facing a single count of assistance fraud.
