Schuylkill County Woman Jailed After Allegedly Making Threats Involving Guns at Courthouse

Shearn held on 10% of $10K bail

A Schuylkill County woman was jailed over the weekend after she allegedly made threats at the Courthouse recently.

Police in Pottsville say they were called to the Courthouse on Friday morning by an employee in the Clerk of Courts office.

That employee reportedly told police that Catherine Shearn, 57, of Frackville, had called the office in reference to expungements. Shearn was reportedly unhappy with the results of her call and said, “All these guns and shootings in Philly and maybe I should just bring them here.”

The employee told police she knew it was Shearn based on prior interactions with her. Also, Shearn reportedly divulged her name on the call.

That wasn’t the only interaction Shearn had at the Courthouse last week. On Nov. 10, a member of the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Dept. said she left the Courthouse and tried to come back in after business hours.

Shearn was denied entry after business hours and reportedly didn’t appreciate that.

She allegedly said to the Sheriff’s Deputy, “I hope you get shot. I’ll help whoever does it.”

Police say they contacted Shearn by phone and requested she come to City Hall for an interview. She reportedly gave several reasons why that couldn’t happen and also denied any knowledge of the incidents in which she’s accused of making those threats.

A warrant was issued for Shearn’s arrest and she was picked up Friday night and arraigned on a single misdemeanor charge of making terroristic threats. Magisterial District Judge AJ Serina set bail at 10% of $10,000 bail, which hasn’t been posted, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Judge James Reiley on Nov. 24.
