The Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office has been called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.
One person is confirmed dead at the scene of the crash and another person is being transported to a Hazleton hospital for treatment of injuries, according to dispatches.
According to emergency dispatches, as of 6:15 p.m., both northbound and southbound lanes of travel are currently closed to traffic.
Traffic in the northbound lanes of the interstate likely will be closed for some time at the Delano exit (134). Fire officials on scene have called for a State Police crash reconstruction team to the interstate.
The first dispatch for this crash came in at about 5:45 p.m. Friday for an “accident with multiple injuries.” Further dispatches reported a tractor-trailer crossed the lane striking multiple vehicles with one person ejected from a vehicle.
