Charges Filed Against Truck Driver in Suspected Diesel Theft from Schuylkill County Rutter’s

Benjamin Polanco Morillo said he thought he could pay after he finished his job.

Police have filed theft charges against a truck driver who allegedly stole hundreds of dollars worth of a diesel fuel from a Rutter’s store in Schuylkill County.

Police say the theft happened on Aug. 9 at the Rutter’s station in West Brunswick Township, outside Orwigsburg.

Benjamin Polanco Morillo, 28, of York, pulled in front of diesel pump #15 at 2:38 a.m. with his truck and filled up with 109.491 gallons of fuel. He then allegedly left the scene without paying. Police say video surveillance footage shows Polanco Morillo committing the theft.

On Oct. 14, police say they spoke with management at Rutter’s and learned that the same vehicle and driver was involved in similar thefts at other Rutter’s locations.

A week later, Polanco Morillo reportedly contacted the State Police-Schuylkill Haven barracks. He said during that interview that he did go to the Orwigsburg area Rutter’s on the date and time in question.

When asked why he didn’t pay for the fuel, he allegedly said that he thought he had permission to pay after he completed his job and that he’s been doing this for some time with other Rutter’s locations.

Polanco Morillo has been charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property. A preliminary hearing on these charges is scheduled for Dec. 16 before Magisterial District Judge AJ Serina.
